

Christopher “Chris” C. Sunds, 78, of East Hartford, loving husband of 51 years of Marla (Chafetz) Sunds, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at a local rehabilitation center. Born in Fremont, Nebraska on September 10, 1945, a son of the late Elvin H. and Evelyn (Morrison) Sunds, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 51 years. Chris was a graduate of Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moine, Iowa and later attended Howell Cheney Technical Trade School in Manchester, where he learned the trade of HVAC. He would go on to be an HVAC worker at G. Fox and then Macy’s Department Store for close to 45 years. Chris was a proud U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War and was always seen wearing his Navy hat. He took pride in maintaining his yard and was proud of his home. He always was willing to repair and fix everything for everyone, especially his family. A devout catholic, Chris was a faithful communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor. Most of all, he was known as a friendly gentleman who had many friends.
Along with his beloved wife Marla, Chris is survived by his devoted daughter, Kimberly J. Sunds of Arlington, VA; two brothers, Reverend Elvin H. Sunds, Jr. of Madison, Mississippi, David J. Sunds and his wife Terresa of Murray, Iowa; two sisters, Barbara Stewart and her husband Randy of Newton, Iowa, Carol Ann Duke and her husband Rex of Creston, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A private Mass of Christian Burial followed by burial with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Christopher’s name may be made to Health Well Foundation, P.O. Box 489, Buckeystown, MD 21717. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
