Evangelista Augusto Milheiro

Evangelista Augusto Oliveira Milheiro, 71, of East Hartford, beloved husband for 47 years of Maria (Cunha) Milheiro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at his home. Born in Murtosa, Portugal, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria (De Oliveira) Milheiro. Evangelista worked as a home builder and served in the Portuguese Air Force as a military policeman. He grew up with a deep love for the sea, fishing, hunting and music. He came to the Hartford area in 1974 and has been a resident of East Hartford for the past 39 years. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for many years by Taylor & Fenn Company. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing in Groton, hunting with his friends and spending his vacation time in his beloved Portugal. A devout catholic, he was a long time communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford.

In addition to his wife, Evangelista leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Mariana of Avon and his grand-children Ben and Lara; a brother Manuel and his wife Arisel; a sister Maria Angelina and her husband Antonio; an aunt, Maria Augusta, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends both in the United States and in Portugal. Besides his parents, Evangelista was predeceased by a brother, Francisco.

Funeral service will be Saturday (May 12th) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please meet at church on Saturday morning. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, Hebron Avenue/Wickham Drive, Glastonbury. Relatives and friends may call at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Friday (May 11th) from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Evangelista’s name may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford, CT 06106 or the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St, East Hartford, CT 06108.
