It is with a heavy heart we announce that our brother Geno A. Cianfaglione has sold his last car. Born April 12, 1958, Geno passed away in his sleep on July 7, 2023, at his family home in East Hartford. Geno was the son of Anthony J. Cianfaglione, Sr., and Abigail (Lillian) Warburton Cianfaglione.
Geno was the 5th child of a large family in an era when families were much larger and extended families were endless. Those extended families often were centered on close friendships we all built with the children in the neighborhood, and people never moved. Growing up in the Woodland section of East Hartford, our family experienced no shortage of neighborhood games, whether Hide and Go Seek, with “home” being the telephone pole in Geno’s front yard, baseball games in his parent’s backyard (which seemed so much bigger back then) or tackle football at the school. Geno’s days were always filled with friendship, laughter, and an innocence we don’t see much anymore.
Geno spent his summers at Chalker Beach, where again he collected friends as some collect seashells. That group of friends started during the turbulence of the 60s and remained close from that moment on. When Geno turned 50, we held a surprise party in Hartford. Every single Chalker Beach friend attended. I know Geno would hope you, the reader, have such friends.
Geno and his buddies always had a strong interest in cars. We believe he may have had 3 Chevy Vegas dismantled in our mother’s backyard at one time. If I recall, Lil wasn’t very happy, but she realized she could close the drapes to hide the view. A Vega lover to the end, Geno would share Vega pictures on Facebook frequently. Geno started working at local car dealerships, where he always had a demonstrator. Giving Geno a new car to drive every day was better than giving him candy bars, and he liked his candy bars! He spent most of his career in the automotive sales arena and built many strong friendships along the way. Geno always believed” a good deal is a state of mind” and always wanted customers to drive away not just happy but proud. Following his retirement Geno spent his time visiting with the neighbors, helping where and could and enjoying a good book while listening to ‘70’s album rock. His backyard patio was his oasis and the music his breeze.
Geno leaves behind his siblings, sisters Noel Paterno and Lani Cianfaglione of East Hartford, Joe (Janet) Cianfaglione of Huntington Beach, CA, Peter of Hartford, and Salvatore (Tory) of Glastonbury, as well as many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews across the country. Every one of them would say Geno was their favorite uncle. Additionally, Geno leaves to mourn many close friends and everlasting friendships. I speak for our family, and I thank you all for your outpouring of calls and offers to help. Geno was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jack and, sadly, two nephews and a niece.
Visiting hours will be held THIS FRIDAY, July 28, 2023, from 4-7 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St. East Hartford.
