If you are reading this, I've passed into the great beyond. On December 7, 2017, I Gilbert E. Wishart, Jr. decided to cash in my last chip after fighting a tough battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease. I was the second son of Gilbert E. Wishart, Sr. of Spring Hill, FL and favorite child of the late Jean Strong Wishart of East Hartford. I graduated from George J. Penney High School in East Hartford, Class of 1977. After graduation I worked in many restaurants from Connecticut to Florida until 1983 when I returned to Connecticut and began working for New England Boring as a driller. In 1993 I decided to take an indoor job and began working as a Supervisor for Hygrade Precision Technologies where I became a machinist. In 2010 I began working for Precision Punch as a Department Head, the job I kept until 2015 when I became disabled.
Besides my father I leave my best friend/big brother/fishing and golfing partner, Scott Wishart of Manchester; my wonderful, caring sister, Kim Wishart and her wife Laura Jenner of East Hartford; my brother, Dean Wishart and his wife Christine of Fremont, NH; my brother, Dennis Wishart and his life partner Magdalene Gribble of Spring Hill, FL and Center Barnstead, NH; my nieces and nephews Darryl, Amanda, Connor, Chandler, Cameron and Kendall Wishart. Besides my family I also leave my friends who were like family to me, lifelong friend Kevin McGill, my guardian angel Andrew ""Chicky"" Florian, care giver and friend Debbie DelValle, Mike McCabe, Dwight Craig, my loyal roommate Steve Brinkman, Frank Ragusa, Richie Crowell, Donny Kupsha, Paulie Belfieore, my care givers who became friends Melanie and Shelonda. I also leave my golfing family from Pine Valley Golf Course, especially Jack the Pro. Also my Tunxis Plantation Golf Course family, especially Louie and Angelo and all the guys in the men's club. I'd also like to thank my Precision Punch family for their continued support and generosity. Also the care givers from Hartford Hospital and the Hospital for Special Care who provided me with great care and kindness and treated me like family. I would also like to thank so many friends, neighbors and family who continued to visit, call, text, send cards and meals as my disease progressed.
At my request there will be no services. Instead please be kind to one another, visit someone who is bed bound, take someone fishing or spend time with and enjoy your family and friends. My ashes will be spread in my beloved Long Island Sound at a date of my choosing. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the ALS Association of CT, 4 Oxford Rd, Unit E4, Milford, CT 06460 or to the ALS Clinic at the Hospital for Special Care, 2150 Corbin Ave, New Britain, CT 06053. The D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements. For on-line expressions of sympathy to the family please visit www.desopo.com.
