

Howard Dwayne Strader, 87, longtime resident of East Hartford, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2025, a day short of his 88th birthday. Born on July 16, 1937, in Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Howard and Evelyn (Graves) Strader. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Howard settled down in East Hartford with his late wife, Barbara (Sisk) Strader, and they were married for 57 years. Howard loved cutting the grass and maintaining his yard, being known for having a “pristine” lawn. He was also an avid golfer who liked playing local courses. He was a loyal fan to the New York Yankees and UCONN men and women basketball teams. He enjoyed the stock market and traveling extensively with his wife.
Howard is survived by his sister Evelyn “Flo” Davis and her husband Richard of Oklahoma, two brothers-in-law Dr. Edward Sisk and Francis Sisk, two nieces Nita Gail Backes of Florida and Debbie Radu, four nephews Michael McGowan of Manchester, Richard Faraci of Florida, Gregg McGowan, and James Sisk, along with several great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Howard is predeceased by two sisters Maxine Fink and Doris Greenhaw and a niece Karen Faraci of Florida.
A funeral service to honor Howard’s life will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10:30 am at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral chapel prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Burial with military honors will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery (Sec. DD), East Hartford.
