

John Grottole, 92, of East Hartford, loving husband of Antoinette (Pignone) Grottole for over 62 years, died peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at his home. Born in Hartford on June 7, 1920, a son of the late John and Palma (Vichi) Grottole, he had resided in East Hartford for more than 60 years. Prior to his retirement, John was employed for 30 years by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford as a Quality Control Inspector. He later was the owner and operator of the Charter Oak Auto Parts in Hartford for 30 years. A devout Catholic, John was a faithful life-long communicant of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, Hartford, where he was an usher for many years. John loved the town of East Hartford and he was committed to community service. He was a member of the East Hartford Planning and Zoning Board for more than 50 years and a member of the Republican Party for over 60 years. He also was a Commissioner for the MDC for the past 24 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Francis Grottole of Windsor; seven other siblings; and a niece, Patricia Cartelli of Newington. Along with his beloved wife, Antoinette, John is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Mary Pignone of Wethersfield; three sisters-in-law, Anne DiNardo of Windsor, Grace Amodeo of Rocky Hill, Lorraine Grottole of Windsor; many nieces and nephews, Rose Lee Petronella and her husband, Dan, of Middletown, Maryanne Loftin and her husband, Ralph, of Marlborough, MA, Anthony Amodeo, Jr. and his wife, Annemarie, of Dayville, Theresa Friedman and her husband, Steve, of Niantic, Cecelia Hinchey and her husband, Michael, of East Hartford, Elizabeth Amodeo of Berlin, Patricia Dimon and her husband, Lee, of Fairfield, Marguerite Beckwith and her husband, Tyler, of Columbia, Nancy Loveland of Cromwell, Susan Pignone of Wethersfield, Cathy Clark of Windsor, Annemarie Rydingsward of Windsor ; and several dear close friends.
Funeral services will be Friday (December 21st) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street. Hartford. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Friday morning). Private entombment will be at the convenience of the family at Mount Saint Benedict Mausoleum, Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Thursday (December 20th) from 3-7 pm.
