
Josephine M. (Lucca) Grasso, 88, of Windsor, loving wife of the late Nicholas J. Grasso, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, (March 17, 2010) with her family by her side. Born in Norfolk on September 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Salvatrice (Finnochiaro) Lucca, she had been a resident of the East Hartford/Glastonbury area for fifty years prior to moving to Windsor in 2003. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Grasso was employed for several years by Connecticut Bank & Trust at Founders Plaza in East Hartford in the Account Reconcilement Department. Josephine was a member of the Senior Centers in Windsor, Glastonbury, and East Hartford where she was known for her card playing expertise. She was a former avid bowler of both Duckpin and Ten-Pin and a fan of the New York Yankees. Josephine also enjoyed crocheting, especially Afghans for all of her nine grandchildren. A generous and caring person, Josephine was a long-time supporter of the American Cancer Society , the Covenant House, and of Children International. Besides her beloved husband and parents, Josephine was predeceased by a son, Joseph Grasso of Marlborough. Mrs. Grasso is survived by a son, Salvatore Grasso and his wife, Carol, of Auburn, ME; two daughters, Deborah A. Kirkpatrick of Windsor, with whom she made her home, Janet M. Spooner and her husband, Donald, of Lebanon; a sister, Lucy Carson of Rocky Hill; nine special grandchildren, Nicholas Grasso and his wife, Wendy, Elizabeth 'Beth' Grasso, Joseph 'Jay' Grasso and his wife, Michele, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Stephanie McGirr and her husband, Graham, Nichola Gallagher and her husband, Patrick, Kirk Spooner and his wife, Kelly, Kyle Spooner, Kelly Spooner; 13 adored great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Josephine will be greatly missed by everyone she has touched in her lifetime. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 20, at 9 am from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Rd., East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel TODAY, from 4-7 pm.
