

Mary Jane Ann (Balchunas) Huntington, 83, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Robert L. Huntington, passed away Friday May 11, 2012. She was born May 18, 1928 in Hartford the daughter of the late Simon and Anna (Matulis) Balchunas. Mary Jane attended Hillyer College and had been a part time librarian both at the East Hartford town library and at the Sunset Ridge school library. She was a fantastic gardener and an awesome baker. Mary Jane was very creative and enjoyed crafting, especially her stamping. She was a devoted Men’s and Women’s UCONN basketball fan as well as a devoted Red Sox fan. Mary Jane loved all of God’s creatures, especially birds, dogs and horses. Including Robert, her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a son Robert L. Huntington Jr. and his wife Debra of Hebron; a daughter Susan McQuiggan and her husband Michael of Tolland; five grandchildren Brett and Lisa McQuiggan, Katie and Rob Huntington and Abby Kilgore and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles Balchunas of California, and Edward Balchunas of Florida; a brother-in-law Harry Huntington and his wife Nina of Manchester and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday May 15th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Isaac Jogues Church, 1 Community Street, East Hartford. (Everyone is asked to go directly to the church). Burial will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Jane’s memory may be made for the purchase of a memorial bench at Wickham Park.
