

Nicholas Rocco Gallicchio, Jr., 94, of East Hartford, entered peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at his home. Nicholas was the loving husband to the late Dianne (Cambria) Burdick Gallicchio and the late Dorothy (Ragona) Gallicchio. Born in Hartford on January 13, 1915, son of the late Nicola Rocco and Magdalena (Boniface) Gallicchio, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1960. Nicholas was a graduate of Weaver High School in Hartford, Class of 1933 and of Morris Business College in Hartford, where he earned a degree in accounting. Nicholas was a proud and decorated U.S. Army veteran of WW II. In 1975, he retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Chief Warrant Officer after over 32 years of dedicated and loyal service to his country. During his career in the Army Reserve, Nicholas served as finance disbursing officer with the 76th Division; deputy finance officer with the 117th United States Army Garrison; and budget and fiscal officer with the 826th Military Intelligence Battalion. Nicholas also retired from the U.S. Postal Service and from the State of Connecticut-Department of Transportation. Nicholas was a life-member of the Reserve Officers Association of U.S.A. and a former communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford. Besides his two beloved wives and parents, Nicholas was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Gallicchio. Nicholas is survived by his beloved caring daughter, Gerry B. Gregoire and her husband, Henry, of Windsor; three brothers, Michael P. Gallicchio of Essex, Victor E. Gallicchio and his wife, Evelyn, of Arizona, Philip J. Gallicchio and his wife, Ann, of Wethersfield; a sister, Mary G. Sullivan of East Hartford; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved puppy and companion, Bailey. At Nicholas?s request, private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours.
