Nina Duckworth Bliss

Nina L. (Duckworth) Bliss, 90, of Mercer, ME and formerly of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal life to join her daughter, Linda, and other family members on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home. Born in Wheeling, WV on February 13, 1925, a daughter of the late George and Jenette (Metz) Duckworth, she had resided in East Hartford for most of her life, prior to moving up to Maine in 1999. Prior to her retirement she was employed for many years as a Dietary Aid at Maple View Manor in Rocky Hill. Nina liked painting, wall papering, and caring for her home which was always “open” to family and friends. She was a hardworking and caring woman who was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Roy of Tolland.

Nina is survived by a son, Norman I. Bliss and his wife, Melodie, of Mercer, ME; three daughters, Norma Schnitzke and her husband, Fred, of Tolland, Shirley Bliss of Mercer, ME with whom she made her home, and Laura Maselek and her husband, Raymond, of Manchester. She was Grandma G.G. to her eleven cherished grandchildren; eighteen adored great-grandchildren; and one special great-great-grandson. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

At Nina’s request, private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nina’s name may be made to the ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivor’s Association, Inc., P.O. Box 1545, New York, NY 10159-1545. The D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
