Nunzio G. Calderone, 82, of East Hartford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 4, 2024. Born on November 16, 1941 in Campo Grande, Providence of Messina, Sicily. He was the son of the late Sebastian and Santa (Pante) Calderone. In 1956, at the age of 16, Nunzio sailed, with his family, on the Andrea Dorea on the voyage immediately prior to it sinking in New York. He proudly became a U.S. Citizen in 1998. Prior to retirement, Nunzio worked for Arrowhart for 27 years. He was a member of and worked for the Glastonbury Elks Lodge for 15 years where he enjoyed meeting many new friends. In his free time, he loved playing cards, golfing and watching sports, especially football, NASCAR, and horse racing. He also enjoyed watching old western films and going on his yearly trips to Florida with friends. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and he was a devoted son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend.
Nunzio is survived by his two brothers; Cosimo Calderone and his wife Josey of East Hartford and Gino Calderone and his wife Barbara of Farmington. Six nieces and nephews that were like his own; Diana (Mark) Robitaille, Anthony Calderone, Michael (Nina) Calderone, Jason (Jennifer) Calderone, Kathleen (Robert) Masella, and David (Mechelle) Moran. Eleven great-nieces and nephews; Julianna, Marky, Anjalena, Avery, Andyn, Ashton, Louis, Theo, Zachary, Tyler, and Brooke, all of whom he adored.
A prayer service to celebrate Nunzio’s life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St. East Hartford. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 am with a prayer service at 10:45 am at the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury.
