Richard J. Oney

Richard J. Oney, 74, of East Hartford, loving husband of 47 years of the late Kathleen V. (Kehoe) Oney, rode off into the sunset with his caring family by his side on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Middlebury, VT on August 25, 1941, a son of the late Charles F. and Sybil (Weeks) Oney, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Prior to his retirement, Richard was employed for 32 years by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford. Richard enjoyed watching television and ""Western"" movies but most of all was a dedicated and devoted family man who loved and was proud of his grandchildren. Richard is survived by two sons, Frederick ""Rick"" Oney and his wife Margie of East Hartford with whom he made his home, Jason R. Oney and his significant other, Melanie Naja, of Wales, MA; a daughter, Melissa L. John and her significant other, Leigh Smith, of South Glastonbury; a sister, Ginger Burdo of East Hartford; eight grandchildren, Hannah, Maxwell, and Tyler Oney, Kristina Maudsley, Grace and Eve Oney, Angela and Zachary John; three great-grandchildren, Starr, Donavan, and Gavin; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with his beloved wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald Oney of East Hartford and Robert Oney of California; and two sisters, Cheryl Roberts and Laurie Gilbert both of East Hartford. Richard's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (April 8, 2016) from 5-7 pm at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
