
Rita E. (Tarza) Romano, 93, of Glastonbury and formerly of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Hartford Hospital. Rita was the loving wife of the late Albert Romano and the late Dominick Battaglio. Born in Hartford on September 9, 1926, a daughter of the late Gaetano and Anna (Rotondaro) Tarza, she had been a resident of the East Hartford/Glastonbury area for the past 70 years. A devout Catholic, Rita was a longtime faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. Rita was a proud, dedicated homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and dear friend to Dorothy Caroso, Christine Delissio, and her cousins Anna Mary Fortunato and Geraldine Bonetti. She was especially fond of her nursing home roommate, Frances Walsh, and two caregivers, Fama Ifoseni and Shay Balaji.
Rita is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Joanne Battaglio of Glastonbury, her nieces, Janice Cordilico, Joanne Turschman, Susan Tarza, Patricia Myers, and Mary Hawkes and her nephews Ronald and Paul Cordilico and great nephew Paul Cordilico, III. In addition to her late husbands and parents, Rita was predeceased by siblings Frank, Mary and John Tarza and Lillian Cordilico.
Due to the current health crisis, all services for Rita were held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rita’s name may be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002. The D’ESOPO-East Harford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
