
Roland Daigle, 85, of Vernon and formerly of East Hartford, went peacefully to be with Our Lord on Thursday (December 30, 2010) in Dade City, FL. Roland was the loving husband for 61 years to Yvette (Roux) Daigle. Born in New Canada Plantation, ME on May 12, 1925, a son of the late Willie and Celina (Dumais) Daigle, he had resided in East Hartford for over 40 years prior to moving to Vernon 3 years ago. Roland also enjoyed spending his summers in Liberty, ME for the past 42 years at Lake St. George and has spent the past ten winters down in Dade City, FL. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II where he earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and the European-African Theatre Medal. Prior to his retirement in 1988, Roland was a talented machinist for many years who was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford and Colt Firearms in Hartford. Roland was known by many as a ""Jack of All Trades"" who enjoyed puttering around and repairing various things. He utilized this talent at St. Mary's Church, East Hartford where he was a former long-time communicant and volunteered numerous hours with the summer carnival, and electrical and overall general maintenance at the church. He also assisted and helped Vietnamese families relocate to the East Hartford area after the Vietnam War. However, Roland will be most remembered as a quiet hard-working family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Besides his beloved wife, Yvette, Roland is survived by a son, David P. Daigle and his wife, Sandy, of South Windsor; a daughter, Celina D. Binns and her husband, Brett, of Ashburn, VA; a sister, Louise Lamontagne of Waterville, ME and Dade City, FL; three adored grandchildren, Keith L. Daigle of Vernon, Erica C. Daigle of South Windsor, Drew Binns of Ashburn, VA; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Along with his parents, Roland was predeceased by three brothers, Philip Daigle of Somers, Euclid Ouellette of East Hartford, Bertrand Daigle of Fort Kent, ME; three half-sisters, Edna Roy and Lenora McTiernan both of Melbourne, FL, Verna Madore of Fort Kent, ME; a step-brother, Eric White of East Hampton; and a step-sister, Beatrice Goode of Monticello, ME. Funeral services will be Saturday (January 8th) at 9:30 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, corner of May Rd/Brandon Rd, East Hartford. Private burial will be on Monday (January 10th) at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Lewiston, ME.
