Verna was raised on a farm in northern Maine. She loved learning and going to school and was always disappointed that her education was interrupted due to her responsibilities on the farm. However, she successfully achieved her GED as an adult and instilled in her children the value of education. Verna moved to Connecticut in the 1940’s where she met her husband, George, and they settled in East Hartford to raise their family. She worked various jobs throughout her life, most notably at Sage-Allen Distribution Center as the Assistant Traffic Manager. Verna enjoyed being active and loved playing golf, traveling, exercising, gardening, and taking classes at the Senior Center. In her later years, she enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, and spending time with her family. Verna was very independent, was friendly to everyone, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was an avid gardener with a green thumb, and she made the best apple pie. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
