Diane Marie Judy, age 80, passed away peacefully in El Paso, TX on November 30, 2021. She was born on May 24, 1941 in Rockford, Illinois to Donald L. and Geraldine M. (Smith) Abel. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Dabney J. Judy, with whom she spent 23 years of happy marriage, as well as her brother-in-law James H. Powers.
Diane is survived by her two sons and their wives Bradford and Faviola Judy, and Timothy and Shannon Judy, grandchildren Alexis, Makayleb, Alyssa, Claire and Luke Judy, her sister Elizabeth Powers, and her many nieces and nephews.
After a brief stint in the convent and after graduating from college, Diane served in the Army from 1972 until 1986, eventually reaching the rank of Captain, ultimately leaving to pursue her biggest passion: teaching. She spent over 50 years teaching subjects like math, science, music, English, history, and even served as the school librarian before retiring from the Ysleta School District in El Paso in 2011. Having touched the lives of so many throughout the years, it was common for her to see her former students as they got older. They would often reminisce about how she would throw candy at them for answering her questions correctly in class or have them do pushups when they didn’t, aptly earning her the title amongst the students of G.I. Judy.
Her other great passion in life was that of her faith. She was a devout Catholic and spent many years in various roles within different congregations and even taught Confirmation classes on Sundays.
Diane will be deeply missed by her family and all those that she influenced over the years.
