Dolores Veliz

On Friday, August 20, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, Dolores Veliz passed away peacefully after a long illness. The eldest of 18 children, born to WillieTorres and Janie Ramirez in Austin, Texas, Dolores was the quintessential mother. Always at the center of any sporting event for her children or grandchildren, Saturday night family card game or spending time with loved ones, she was happiest in the company of family.

In the 1970’s she was employed with American Furniture Company and Our Lady of the Valley School. However, most of her years were spent as the driving force of the Veliz household. Always the adventurer, Dolores enjoyed her Women’s Bowling Leagues, weekend golf outings and countless trips to Las Vegas with her husband.

Survived by her loving husband Arturo, seven children and their spouses; Richard (Delma), Dr. Debra (Fernie) Martinez, Arthur, Robert (Liz), David (Lisa), Chuck (Terri), Scott (Belinda); sixteen grandchildren; Marissa (Jason) Metcalfe, Leah Martinez, Vince Martinez, Nick, Chris, Michael, Mandy, Meghan, William, Demi, Dylan, Josh, Jake, Dominic, Justin, Brandon Veliz; great-grandchild Julian Metcalfe; and eleven brothers and sisters; James, Willie, Marylee, Rosalee, Frank, Henry, Irene, Michael, Virgie, Steve and Liz.

Dolores will be terribly missed as she touched so many lives. Her family would like to thank the staffs at Bienvivir Concourse, Mountain Villa and Casa Felicitas ll for their extraordinary care. Visitation will be held 5pm to 9pm Thursday, August 26, 2010 with a 7:00 p.m. vigil at Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central. Memorial Mass 9:30 am Friday August 27, 2010 at St. Raphael Catholic Church.
