Edna C. Vijil passed away on January 3, 2021. The Good Lord summoned her to paradise. Edna was born on September 19, 1961, to Ramon (Pelon) Chavez and Rachel (Rocky) Santana Chavez. Remembering her as “The Best of the Best!” by her co-workers and patients is the legacy she leaves behind. Her passion for caring for her patients will truly be missed.
Edna graduated from Burges High School in 1979, attended UTEP, and then went into the medical field. She became a Surgical Technician September 1990. She continued her education at the UT Health and Science Center in San Antonio where she earned her license as a Physical Therapist 1994. She worked at Hotel Dieu, Providence Hospital, then at New Mission Health Care with colleagues Martha Martinez (“Partner in Crime”) and Laura Morales for 13 years. Edna met her husband, David, at UTEP in 1979, while they were both in the marching band. They dated for 7 years before they tied the knot on May 5, 1986, and on January 3, 1987 at St. Pius Catholic Church.
Edna (NINA, Sunshine) is survived by her adoring husband, David, Sr. (Dinky) and her two beloved sons, David Jr. (LD) and Eric Raymond (Lefty) Vijil. She leaves behind her siblings: Rosemary (Russell), Mike (Kerri), Richard (Jennifer), Ruben (Jessica) and Little Randy (Celeste). Being the oldest of her siblings, as well as, cousins, she was a role model to all of them. In-laws include Raymundo and Lupita Vijil, sister-in-law Dolores Estrada (Frank), brother-in-law, John Vijil (Veronica). She will be dearly miss by a large family with multiple uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her dad, Pelon and mom, Rocky.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 18, 2021, at St. Pius Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark Dr., El Paso, Texas 79905 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to celebrate her life will continue at her home. Services entrusted to Funeraria del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79903
