I worked closely with Ed in Mogadishu, Somalia.  He was assigned to my Combat Camera Team for Operation Restore Hope.

He was a true professional as both a Leader of Marines and Videographer.  While in Somalia he flew daily aerial missions to capture visual reconnaissance imagery that was mission essential.

He will be missed.

Mr. Ed was our next-door neighbor for 15 years. He has been there for us many times when my husband was deployed. One of my kids even called him when our hamster died and he came and buried him at 2:00 a.m.  This is how he was,  a man with a big heart. We will miss his kindness. He was always willing to help others.  He will be greatly missed and fondly thought of. The Raleys

I'll always remember you sharing your life stories with me , but most of all, I'll always cherish our friendship and how we made each other laugh. I miss you so much, and it hurts deeply that you've crossed into eternity, but my prayer is that you are now at peace. I love you, my friend. Thank you for how you touched my life.

At night we visited ocean side beach to walk a mile out into the shore line and collect sand dollars. We drove from San Diego to El Paso, stopping by Roswell, and white sands. Pulling over when a rainbow appeared over the desert. Collecting dead cactus and stones. Weekends spent at work while he finished editing photos and videos. Watching my first horror movies together.  Spraying him with a water bottle so we could make it to our next destination on time. As hard as this past few years were I’m lucky enough to have so many memories that out number the difficult ones. Thank you for teaching me the value of nature, capturing moments, and putting your all into your work. 

I met Ed when we were stationed in Camp Lejeune together in the fall of 1988. We had our child together, Izi, who he adored. Ed was a good person with a good heart. He was entirely dedicated to his career in the Marines and loved his children dearly. I will always miss our breakfasts (the slowest cook ever) and BBQs. Rest in Peace old friend, I know you'll be watching over the kids. 

I met Aspera in 1982 when I reported to my first duty station in 29 Palms, CA. I met him again in civilian life while he was working at Warren Robbins AFB and I was working at Marine Corps Logistics Command in Georgia. The Espirit de Corps was  still present between us. ...Ever look on heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by UNITED STATES MARINES.

New him in the Marine Corps. He was an approachable leader and liked by all. Went to Somalia together. 

Sometime back in the 90’s Eddie and I found ourselves at some conference or another with some imbibing going on and he was missing his daughters so he decided he was going to French braid my hair.  He did a darned good job of it too.  From then on, when we were at the same conference someplace, Eddie would do my hair.  He always complained that mine was so thin compared to his daughters.  He was a fantastic photographer also, I always admired his timing for a fantastic shot.  I used to talk to him or email him from time to time and we would catch up.  I for one will miss him.  Fair Winds and Following Seas from the “Squidlett” to the “Sea Going Bellhop”.

Survivors include his two loving daughters Isabelle Ann Aspera and Brandelyn Annette Aspera, brother Daniel D. Aspera (Yolanda), sister Barbara A. Martinez (Luis Arturo). Also missing him will be his two loyal loving cats Roco &amp; Scarlet.
