Guillermo "Memo" E. Moreno, MD, 01-19-1946 - 02-14-2022, was a thoughtful, loving, generous, and responsible son, brother, parent, and friend. He was blessed with a sense of humor and had a deep reverence for all of God’s creatures. He would ground himself to Nature to be energized and strengthened by its powerful energy. He loved watering the plants and trees surrounding his home and appreciated their interconnectedness to all life. He was soul sensitive to the needs of others and used his medical skills with the intent to heal those who asked for his help.
Memo received his medical degree from King Juan Carlos, 1st at the Medical School in Salamanca, Spain, in the fields of medicine and surgery. Upon receiving his diploma, Memo thanked his maternal grandmother for teaching him how to stitch as a boy of seven. He did his residency at Albert Einstein and Bronx Lebanon Hospitals in NYC. He completed a four-year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He practiced his profession in NYC and in Arizona. He retired from medicine and returned to El Paso to care for his ailing mother until she passed.
Memo is preceded in death by his parents, Ofelia and Henry C. Moreno; and his elder sister, Betina Moreno, (NYC/Cumpas). He is survived by his adult son, Christian G. Moreno, (NYC); his sisters, Angelina Moreno Badillo (Mannie) and Ana Moreno (CA); his nanny in toddler years Consuelo (Chelo) Barrios-Beltran; his childhood friend Lucindo Enriquez, and goddaughter Cezanne Enriquez (San Antonio, Texas); and by his many cousins scattered throughout the Southwest, Pacific Coast and East Coast.
Memo was born in Arizona and raised in El Paso. He graduated from Cathedral High and received his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and Chemistry from the University of Albuquerque in Albuquerque, NM.
Memo was an avid reader and always kept up with medical science research especially in his field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He was a strong advocate of healing the body and mind through natural methods, if possible, using herbs, vitamins, and a balanced diet specific to the digestive needs of the individual.
He was a deeply spiritual man and served God nobly through his many talents. He always reminded his family that when God called for them, there was nothing more that modern medicine could do, but to keep the persons comfortable and pain free until they passed.
We love you, Memo, very much for sharing with us the depth of your humanity and spiritual goals important in your life. REST IN PEACE, BROTHER AND FRIEND!
Please remember that all of Memo’s friends are welcome to attend the services to say good bye.
Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 29th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3729 Hueco Avenue. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
