It is with deep sorrow and great love that we announce the passing of Hortencia Hinojosa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who peacefully passed away in her home on January 2, 2025. Born on November 16, 1931, Hortencia was a dedicated nurse, devoted mother, and fierce matriarch of our family.
Hortencia's life was one of unwavering dedication and selflessness. She worked tirelessly as a nurse throughout her life, providing not only for her three daughters—Leticia, Cecilia, and Rosa —but also the majority of her grandchildren. Her passion for nursing was unmatched, and even in retirement, she never stopped working, driven by a love for helping others and a commitment to her profession. She was well respected in every hospital she worked in, known for her deep knowledge and strong work ethic.
Hortencia married the love of her life, Fernando Hinojosa, and together they raised a large, close-knit family. They were married for 55 years, and while Fernando played a large role in raising the children, it was Hortencia who provided the drive and stability that allowed them all to thrive. She was a no-nonsense, strong-willed woman who taught the women of our family to be independent, work hard, and never rely on others. While she was not one for outward displays of affection, her love was always shown through her actions—working tirelessly to support her family, providing for their education, and ensuring their safety and success.
Though she seldom bought for herself, Hortencia had simple joys that brought her happiness. She loved chocolate, music, dancing, and collecting trinkets from thrift stores. Her spirit was resilient, and her legacy of strength, determination, and love will continue to guide us all.
Hortencia is survived by her beloved husband, Fernando Hinojosa, her daughters Leticia Lechuga, Cecilia Lechuga, and Rosa Alva Garcia, and countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. She was a true inspiration, and her absence leaves a profound void in our hearts.
As the matriarch of our family, Hortencia's legacy of strength, dedication, and love will live on in each of us. We will carry her lessons forward, remembering her not just for the work she did but for the values she instilled in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Rest in peace, Hortencia. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A graveside service for Hortencia will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 8:30 AM at Restlawn Memorial Park, 4848 Alps, El Paso, Tx 79904.
