Joe D. Herrera Jr.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather & friend Joe D. Herrera (68,) peacefully went home to be with our Heavenly Father December 17th, 2016. Joe was born in Marfa, TX July 15, 1948. His family moved to Lovington, NM where he was raised and met his first wife Jean Bell. Together they had two daughters Lorrie and Dana.Joe later moved to El Paso and married his second wife, Yolanda Terrazas and adopted her son Rey. Together Joe and Yolanda expanded their family with the birth of Joey and Joseph David.

Joe’s 10 year career with Fort Bliss’s Civil Service ended with a new passion for the hospitality industry. He worked with Yolanda’s popular family business, Leo’s Mexican Restaurant and learned that he found his calling. Opportunity lead him to run popular corporate restaurants such as Bennigan’s, Steak & Ale, and El Chico’s throughout Texas. Joe returned to El Paso in 1984 to continue a restaurateur career by opening restaurants La Terraza, Munch-a-Lunch, Arnold’s, Chili Peppers, Las Tias and currently Casita Linda in Northeast El Paso.

Joe’s regular customers were close to his heart and he was admired by many. He carried a special place in his heart for his employees. His sense of humor, piercing blue eyes and contagious smile always lit up the room. Nobody cheered harder for the Dallas Cowboys. His generosity & hard work ethic leaves us all inspired.

Joe is survived by his wife Yolanda, 5 children Lorrie (Ernie,) Dana, Rey (Michael,) Joey (Korie,) Joseph David (Isabel,) grandchildren Pasha, Krista, Parker, Joseph David Jr., Christian, Josiah, Isabel, Guillermo, Inez, & Isaiah, 1 great grandchild Landon, 2 sisters Delfa (Sonny,) Elodia (Bob+.) He is preceded by his parents Joe & Lilia, and brother Oscar. Joe’s beloved pet Angel misses him.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his specialist & friend Dr. Alfonso Chavez & his staff for their exceptional care for the last 10 years while Joe endured through kidney complications & cancer.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21st, at Martin Funeral Home located at 3839 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas 79903 from 5-9PM with the Rosary beginning at 7PM.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Thursday December 22nd, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Parish located at 2301 Zanzibar Rd. with Interment to follow at Restlawn Cemetery, 8700 Dyer St.
