Jose Tavarez Sr. passed away on Wednesday, July 1st. Jose was born on December 18, 1933 in Presidio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Juanita Tavarez and his brother Julian. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Romelia Tavarez, his daughters Rosa Hood (Robert Hood) Marta Tavarez and son Jose Tavarez Jr.
He served in the army and was stationed in Korea for a couple of years. He first worked with Texas Liquor Control Board. He then starting working with the U.S. Border Patrol. He retired in 1993 as a Supervisor of Detention Enforcement. After his retirement he worked at Mt. Carmel Cemetery for several years. We would like to thank everyone at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home for taking such good care of him. The love and kindness that was shown there will not soon be forgotten.
His services will be held on Monday, July 6th, at St. Raphael’s Parish, 2301 Zanzibar Rd. The Rosary will be at 9:00am, Mass at 9:30am and Interment Ceremony will be at 11:00am at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home, 9650 Kenworthy St., El Paso, Texas 79924.
