Luisa Yepez

Luisa Yepez was born on June 21, 1934, in Veracruz, Mexico to Dario Yepez & Lucrecia Cruz. She spent her early years with her grandparents, working long days with their fishing business, swimming in the waters of the Gulf, alongside her aunts and uncles. As a young adult, she had a passion for theater, producing and managing artists for performance and dance. She also tried her hand at circus life, with a short-term stent in the circus and later, in politics. She attended the Carlos Septien Garcia School of Journalism in Mexico City and spent many years pursuing careers in Marketing and Print Reporting.

She found a true passion in connecting with people and was the right-hand woman for various local and national campaigns – even working as a manager for a Congressman and a Business Inspector for the Department of Industry and Commerce. After emigrating to the United States and becoming a US citizen, she continued her passion of community leadership by undertaking local efforts at low-income housing reform and other advocacy for the less fortunate.

Although she found pleasure in all sorts of advocacy and business, the role she most loved was motherhood – for her children and her pets. Her beloved dog Perito spent 17 wonderful years by her side and she was most recently accompanied by Coco, who is here with us today.

Luisa is survived by her husband, Carmen Talamantes; her children, Mireya Ruiz Yepez (Francisco) and Elias Ventanilla (Nicole); her grandchildren Luis, Alejandro, Elizabeth; her great-grandchildren Ashley, Monica, David, Paola; her great-great grandchildren Arlett and Jazmin; and her brother Gumersindo ‘Patatino’ Estevez Cruz. She is preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins and her grandson, David.

Wherever Luisa went, she created family and community out of neighbors, acquaintances and even strangers. She was open, honest, communicative and straightforward; and there was no chance you would not know what was on her mind. She worked hard and loved harder, extending God’s love and generosity to everyone she met.

Luisa peacefully departed this life on April 25, 2025 at the remarkable age of 90. She will be missed but we take comfort in knowing we will see her again soon.

Funeral arrangements will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Evergreen East. Viewing will be held May 7th at 5 pm and Services to be held May 8th at noon. A small reception will be held after the services on Thursday.

Luisa Yépez nació el 21 de junio de 1934 en Veracruz, México, hija de Darío Yépez y Lucrecia Cruz. Pasó su infancia con sus abuelos, trabajando y ayudando a la pesca y nadando en las aguas del Golfo junto a sus tíos. De joven, sintió pasión por el teatro, la producción y la representación artística de espectáculos y danza. También se aventuró con una breve experiencia en el circo y, posteriormente, en la política. Estudió en la Escuela de Periodismo Carlos Septién García en la Ciudad de México y dedicó muchos años a carreras de mercadotecnia y periodismo impreso.

Encontró una verdadera pasión en conectar con la gente y tuvo diferentes roles en varias campañas locales y nacionales, llegando incluso a trabajar como gestionadora de un congresista e inspectora comercial del Departamento de Industria y Comercio. Tras emigrar a Estados Unidos y obtener la ciudadanía estadounidense, continuó su pasión por el liderazgo comunitario participando en iniciativas locales de reforma de viviendas para personas de bajos recursos y en otras actividades de defensa de personas de alta necesidad.

Aunque disfrutaba de todo tipo de abogacía y negocios, el llamado que más amaba era ser Mamá de sus hijos y de sus mascotas. Su querido perro Perito pasó 17 maravillosos años a su lado y recientemente estuvo acompañada por Coco, quien está aquí con nosotros hoy.

A Luisa le sobreviven su esposo, Carmen Talamantes; sus hijos, Mireya Ruiz Yépez (Francisco) y Elías Ventanilla (Nicole); sus nietos Luis, Alejandro y Elizabet; sus bisnietos Ashley, Mónica, David y Paola; sus tataranietos Arlett y Jazmín; y su hermano Gumersindo «Patatino» Estévez Cruz. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, tías, tíos, hermanos, primos y su nieto David.

Dondequiera que Luisa iba, creaba una familia y una comunidad con vecinos, conocidos y hasta personas desconocidas. Era abierta, honesta, comunicativa y directa; era imposible ignorar lo que estaba en su mente. Se esforzo durante la vida y amó con intensidad, compartiendo el amor y la generosidad de Dios con todos los que conocía.

Luisa regreso a su hogar eterno el 25 de abril de 2025 a la extraordinaria edad de 90 años. La extrañaremos, pero nos consuela saber que la volveremos a ver pronto.

Los servicios funerarios se realizarán en la Funeraria Del Angel Evergreen East. La visita de condolencia tendrá lugar el 7 de mayo a las 5 pm y el servicio religioso el 8 de mayo al mediodía. Se ofrecerá una pequeña recepción después del servicio el jueves.
