

He was born in Chihuahua Mexico but had been a citizen of the United States since 1963 . He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. In 1981 he married the love of his life, Maria Luisa Basurto. He retired after 40 years of service with Union Pacific Railroad and continued his career as a tax preparer for another 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Manuel Basurto Jr., and his parents Margarita Rodriguez Basurto and Simon Olivares Basurto.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Maria Basurto; his children, Michelle Adams, Denise Walsh, and Margarita Basurto; grandchildren, Anthony Basurto, Adrian Basurto, Eric Basurto, Emanuele Protano, Jacob Fifield, Francesca Protano Goldstein, Rhianna Basurto Fajardo, Neil Fifield, Elias Basurto, Sophia Basurto, Theodore Mendoza, and Marlowe Mendoza. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl, Eddie, and Joe; his sisters, Irene, Josie, and Teresa; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Vigil at 7 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 21st at 12 p.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1700 George Dieter Dr., followed by a committal service to Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.
Manuel lived life to the fullest and had a passion for learning, helping others and spending quality time with his family. He was a loving man of integrity, always hardworking, and a devoted husband, father, grandpa and brother. "We love you Pop and we will always have a special place in our hearts for you".
