It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, Richard Barthod, at the El Paso University Medical Center on Monday March 9 2026. He would have turned 60 years old this upcoming September 23.
His immense kindness and boundless generosity will be truly missed, and we are heartbroken at the thought of never sharing with him one of his special funny jokes again.
Richard Barthod was born in Bourgoin-Jallieu to Michelle Pegoud and Robert Barthod, on September 23 1966.
He grew up in Lagnieu, a small countryside village in France, in the company of his older sister Catherine and his younger brother Nicolas.
He got married to Florence Guiffray in 1991 and together they had two daughters, Manon and Fanny. His “girls” - as he called them - express their infinite sorrow to lose such a loving and extraordinary dad.
He spent his entire professional life working for Balloffet, a family-run company specialized in tools for the wire and cable industry.
After spending some time in New Jersey, it is his job that brought him to El Paso in 2004.
He immediately fell in love with this town and the people who live here, enjoying the sense of community and freedom he discovered.
He was lucky enough to meet Naomi Garcia at his workplace, and they became partners and shared many beautiful life moments together until her passing last year on September 21 2024.
They shared countless joyful memories with Fernie, Naomi’s son, Nicholas, her grandson, as well as Angel, Fernie’s older daughter, and Sebastian “Bash”.
Many times Richard expressed so much affection towards his loved ones here in El Paso.
Every single person who you will talk to about Richard will mention what a nice and gentle man he was, and how much he was loved.
Unfortunately he fell ill with a bad infection towards the end of February, and despite all the efforts of the exceptional medical staff who took him into their hands in the intensive care unit, he took off to the heavens on Monday morning, where will be reunited with many of his most loved ones, in particular his father Robert Barthod, his sister Catherine Tournebize, and his dear Naomi.
He leaves his other loved ones to mourn him here.
May we keep in mind the sound of his laugh and the sparkle of his beautiful blue eyes.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave. El Paso, Texas 79903
