
Robert Keim Swisher was born May 30, 1927 in Lamoni, Iowa and died April 9, 2016. The only child of Gerald Swisher and Audrey Keim Swisher spent his early years in Southern, Iowa earning letters in sports and awards for his lovely singing. He was a graduate of Leon High School- attended the University of Iowa for one year then served 17 months in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he earned degrees at Utah State University in Logan, Utah and Utah University in Salt Lake City. He served 27 years in the U.S Army retiring as a regular Army Lt. Colonel with duty stations in England, Korea, Vietnam and several forts in the U.S. and was a graduate pf the Command and General Staff College at Leavenworth, Kansas. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid golfer. He was an active duty Senior Champion at the Ft. Bliss golf course where he scored two hole-in-ones during his lifetime. He played golf until Macular Degeneration robbed him of his sight. He married his high school sweetheart Billie Lee Bailey with whom he had three children - Robert Jr., William Lee, and Alisa Ruth as well as five grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He and Billie traveled extensively, visiting all continents with the exception of Antarctica. They celebrated their 70th anniversary on December 20, 2015. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Blind Veterans Association or the Humane Society of El Paso.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Martin Funeral Home Central. Committal Service will be held Friday, April 15, 2015 at 10:30am at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
