Ruth Emma Alexander Keyson

Ruth Emma Alexander Keyson (age 90) passed away August 29, 2014, in El Paso, TX. She was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and was always proud to say that she was from Ohio. Ruth valued her family history; she traced her roots to the earliest European settlers of the Ohio Valley. Her ancestors fought in America's Revolutionary War and later helped to establish the towns of Parkersburg and Ravenswood in West Virginia. Ruth's family actively supported the US in World War II, sending all three of her brothers into combat. A passionately patriotic American, Ruth married Wesley A. Keyson (Col., Army, Retired). For twenty years she represented her country and created homes in Japan, Germany, Hawaii, and throughout the continental U.S. In 1960, Ruth and Wesley settled in El Paso where they established a home for their two sons and five daughters. Family and friends came first for Ruth. She was a wonderful cook, and everyone loved to gather in her warm and welcoming home. Ruth believed in serving the community. She volunteered at schools, served as a Cub Scout den mother and often taught Sunday School or Vacation Bible School. Her love of music found expression in the church choir. Her passion for learning led to many classes at UTEP. Her abiding interest in medicine and her deep desire to help others led to 35 years of hospital volunteer work, mainly at Thomason Hospital. Ruth was admired and respected by all who knew her. She is survived by her seven children: David Keyson, Nancy Rede, Alexis Knudsen, Mary Nasits, Wesley Keyson, Jr., Judith Kummrow, and Zeoma Olszewski. She leaves 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana Ave. Graveside Service will be Friday, September 5, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. with interment to follow. Ruth believed in a strong, informed America. Donations in her name may be made to PBS television, military causes, or other areas of personal choice.
