

Samuel Roberts, 96, went to rest in peace on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Sam was born on September 12, 1918 in Jones, Oklahoma to Samuel Roberts and Alberta Whitfield. Raised in the city of El Paso, Texas, he later married Dorothy G. Sanders of Giddings, Texas. They were married for 55 years. Sam worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and Amtrak for a total of 30 years. Sam also served in World War II in the United States Army for 3 years. He received the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Sam was well known for his sense of humor and tall Texas tales. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and son Samuel Roberts, Jr. He is survived by daughters Dana Helen Roberts and Eva Jean Smith (Herbert); nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and brother Roscoe Roberts of Denver, Colorado. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in Martin Funeral Home Central Chapel. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana Ave.
