

Sylvester “Silver” Parra, Jr., 88, passed away October 5, 2014. He was born December 8, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of El Paso. He was a graduate of Bowie High School where he played football for the Bears. Mr. Parra was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII and was a retired Teamster after 27 years of service. He was preceded in death by parents Josephina and Silvestre Parra, Sr., brother, Francisco Parra and sister, Berta Parra. Mr. Parra is survived by his children Sylvia Ann Parra and Silvestre “Jimmy” Parra III and wife Mary Lou; grandchildren, Yviana Barragan, Adrian Barragan, Daniella Barragan, Esme Barragan, Spencer Parra and Ruby Lou Parra; great-grandchildren, Jessica Gonzales, Victoria Gonzales, Fernando Almanza and Joseph Almanza; sisters, Carolina Licon and Martha Franco; many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered and greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 10, 2014 at 1:15 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 S. Oregon. Rite of Committal will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Parra, Spencer Parra, Adrian Barragan, Rudy Licon, Elbert Parra and Cris Rey.
