Long time El Paso resident, William “Bill” Robert Gordon, was called home by the Lord on January 21, 2015 after an extended illness. Bill was born on June 6, 1935 in Gowanda, New York. He served honorably in the US Army Medical Corps from 1955 to 1957. Bill worked as part of the Security and Maintenance Department at Phelps Dodge Copper, retiring in 1997. Before and after his military service, Bill worked at Gowanda State Homeopathic Hospital. He attended El Paso Community College and New Mexico State University. He was married to the former Marion Dippel, recently celebrating a 57th wedding anniversary. Survivors include his wife, 3 sons; Mark Gordon (Ashleigh) of Houston TX; Geoffrey Gordon (Monique) of El Paso; Robert Gordon (Jennifer) also of El Paso and one daughter, Barbara Gordon Blankenship (Bobby) of Mooresville NC. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; Laura, Travis, Krista, Kara, Olivia, Garrett, Shannon, Bradley and Billy. Bill was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a former Roncollian. His presence will be irreplaceable at the table of the daily coffee group known as ROMEO or Retired Old Men Eating Out. Bill possessed a dynamic personality and never met a stranger. Animals held a special place in his heart as he always had a snack in his pocket for a lucky pup crossing his path. Bill left a lasting and positive influence on the many fortunate enough to know him. Although we will miss him tremendously, we gain strength by having faith in knowing we will meet him again someday in Heaven. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday, January 26, at Martin Funeral Home Central with a 7:00 pm rosary. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1315 Travis. Burial will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home Central 3839 Montana Ave. El Paso, Texas 79903 (915) 566-3955.
