John David Miller (86) died on December 17, 2018 in Estes Park, CO. John was born September 23, 1932 to Lewis and Emma Miller in Springfield, IL. In High School John enjoyed swimming, then later in life he enjoyed tennis and bicycling, walking around Pole Hill area and hiking including climbing Longs Peak several times and ran a marathon in Palo Duro Canyon, TX. John served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. In 1956 John met his future wife, Helen, in Estes Park at the Rock Inn and they were married on August 31, 1957 in Fargo, ND. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern IL. Charleston, a Masters from Iowa State Ames and a PHD from Indiana University in Bloomington in Mathematics. John became a mathematics professor in 1963 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville worked there until 1968 and went to Texas Tech and worked until retirement in 1996. John and Helen then moved to Estes Park to retire in 1996. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bob. John is survived by His wife Helen, two brothers Larry of TN. And Lonnie of IL. two sons Sean Miller (Diane) of Lakewood, CO. and Kurt Miller of Denver, CO., one daughter Melinda Miller (Chris Diebold) of Denver, CO. and two grandchildren Harper and Rowan Stoeckle. A private family service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers the family would ask for memorial contributions be made to the Estes Park Library Foundation in care of Allnutt Funeral Service 1302 Graves Ave. Estes Park, CO 80517.
