

Gary Chumley Sr., 57,of Evansville passed away June 8 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 18, 1956 to Fred and Peggie (Taylor) Chumley.
Gary was considered one of the best car painters in town. He was also a skilled union iron worker. He owned Gary’s Body Shop for many years and spent the last several years working for his good friend Dave Gorman at Dave’s Body Shop. Gary was a member of the Iron Workers #103.
Gary was an avid race fan. Going to dirt track races with his dad, son, daughters, and grandkids was his favorite past time. Lots of his best memories were made traveling to big races with his family. Gary also enjoyed playing cards with his sisters, fixing up old cars, attending family reunions, cookouts with friends and family, and anything to do with his kids or grandkids. Gary is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Marc) Fitzgerald and Amy (Ryan) Ulrey; his son Gary Chumley Jr.; his sisters Shelly Chumley, Tammy Jones, and Gina Chumley,; a brother Stan Chumley; his four grandkids Nathan and Alex Fitzgerald and Sydney and Wyatt Ulrey; and numerous step siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Chumley and Peggie Lefler and his sister Lydia Chumley. Friends may call from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home East. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013, at 11:00 am at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Charles “Chuck” Steproe officiating.
