Jane moved to Evansville at a young age. She worked for Whirlpool for many years, married and moved away for several years living in Albuerque, NM and Davenport, IA. She returned to Evansville, and Whirlpool, around 1962, retiring on March 1, 1984.
Mary Jane, whom everyone called "Aunt Jane," attended Daniel Wertz Elementary School and F. J. Reitz High School, graduating in 1938. She had attended most all of her high school class reunions up to the 70th. Aunt Jane was a very fun lady. Everyone loved her good humor. You never knew what she was going to say. She loved to tease everyone. She was quick witted and never failed to have a quick whip or funny story for everyone. She enjoyed life, everything about it, from good food, traveling, bingo, spending time and cooking meals for her friends and family. She must have been one of the greatest cooks in the United States. Her famous cakes, bread pudding, and cookies were well known and always in demand, not to mention her good country cooked meals. She never had any children but she dearly loved all her nieces and nephews. She was so proud of each of them and she loved spending time with them. She attended Christian Fellowship Church with her family as often as she could, depending on her health. She was a professed Christian and said she was ready to make her journey home.
She lived in Howell most of her life and had many beloved neighbors and friends through the years. Some she will join in heaven and some remain here. She was very thankful for all of her family. She loved each of them and would do whatever she could to help them. She and her sister Dorothy attended many of the kids ballgames, weddings, baby showers, and took many, many trips together. She will be missed greatly.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lewis; parents, Jessie G. and Maymie Moore; only sister, Dorothea Groves; two nieces, Carolyn Sue Buente and JoAnn Pruden; great-niece, Terri Lynn Schmuck; and nephew-in-law, Jerry W. Nicholson.

Groves, Pastor (Linda); niece, Donna Boswell (Clarence); nephew-in-law, Ervin Buente (Karen); great-nieces, Ginger Fuchs (Bobby), Audrey Krass (Todd) and Dawn Michel (Duane); great-nephews, Kirk Pruden (Debbie), Dirk Pruden (Carole), Michael Buente, Jeff Buente (Janet) David Groves (Denise), Jason Groves (Janice) and Wes Nicholson; and her beloved lifetime friend, Wanda West.
