

Ralph graduated from Lincoln High School, 1950, in Vincennes, entered Vincennes University for two years where he was Phi Beta Kappa and graduated from Purdue University School of Chemical Engineering in 1955.
He served in the US Army, Security Division, in Japan following the Korean Conflict. He began his career at Mead Johnson Pharmaceuticals in product development for twelve years. He joined Keebler Baking Company to manage the Chicago plant site and later transferred to the Philadelphia plant. In 1972, Ralph was hired by The Kitchens of Sara Lee in Deerfield, IL to develop an in-house engineering department which led to the full-time implementation of OSHA and the Clean Air Act requirements.
In 1988, Ralph became Director of Environmental Affairs for Sara Lee Corporation, Chicago with responsibilities for 350 plant sites worldwide.
Many of his activities centered around his profession. He served on the International Leadership Council of the Nature Conservancy and appeared before congressional sub-committees as an expert in environmental subjects. For ten years, he served as Environment and Safety chairperson for the American Baking Association, Washington, DC.
Upon retirement, Ralph returned to Evansville and served as president of both the Vanderburgh Community Foundation and the Community Alliance Board, was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Brute Society, Evansville Rotary, Knights of Columbus, and Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association. He joined Oak Meadow Country Club and the Cambridge Country Club Golf Leagues. His pastimes included oil painting, cooking, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never met an opera he didn’t like and enjoyed an extensive collection of classical music.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Julie Reed Mallory; daughter, Jill Pedersen; son, John (Barbarann) Mallory of Littleton, Colorado; foster son, Michael (Tom Jones) Tyllas of Chicago; grandsons, Kier and Stephen Pedersen; and three great-grandchildren; niece, Lynn Valentino of Warren, OH.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm Friday, September 8, 2017, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel 800 S. Hebron, Evansville where a memorial service will begin at 6:30 pm, visitation will continue from 9:30 am -10:00 am Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist 5301 Daylight Dr., Evansville, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am at the church with Father Chris Forler officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery. Where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct graveside services.
