Barbara was welcomed into the world on October 14th 1932 in Tacoma WA by Eleanor and Harold McDonald. She was the oldest of two children (brother Roger McDonald).
An expert knitter and an avid Tweeter of conservative political zingers, she was kept busy by Mariner Games, Fox News’ The Five and visits from her 6 children and all the grandkids.
A graduate of Everett High School (’51), and a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Everett, she was independent and working at an early age. As a member of the Army’s Women’s Auxiliary Corp she met and married her husband A.T. (Joe) Hernandez.
They were both stationed at Presidio of SanFrancisco, California where her future husband would send her love notes with Snoopy drawn on them. Together they made Martha Lake their home (for 53 years).
A long career at GTE and later Premera Blue Cross was due to her stellar organizational skills and work ethic. A Sharpie and label maker were by her side even at 88. No matter the item, she would find a way to label it with her Sharpie and file it.
She always said that after all her life’s work, she was spending her days doing exactly what she wanted to do.
She joins her beloved husband in heaven and is survived by her children; Darcy Hernandez Rutz, Robert Hernandez, Cynthia Hernandez, Susan Eckstrom, Barb Di Re, John Hernandez, her cat Winston and many many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A special thank you to her grandchild and caretaker, Tommie Daugherty, whose dedicated care allowed her to stay at home which was her greatest wish.
