Age 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 6, 2013. He was born in Startup, WA on November 5, 1915, the son of Guy William & Caroline Grace (Harman) Ward. He was the last surviving member of their six children. He graduated from Sultan High School in 1934. He married June H. Inman on November 6, 1936, in Cashmere, WA. They had been married almost 65 years when she passed away in 2000. For a short time from 2005-2008, he lived in Yakima with one of his oldest sons before returning with them to the Lake Stevens area. Carl’s seven children survive him: Keith (Carolyn) Ward of Gainesville, GA: Ken (Sharon/Sammie Thurber) Ward of Lake Stevens: Dennis (Dianne) Ward of Granite Falls, WA: Sandra Hecla of Lake Stevens: Nancy (Robert) Perin of Tualatin, OR: David (Brinda) Ward of Lake Stevens: & Joann (Steve) Manske of Snohomish, WA. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews, as well as a sister-in-law in California and a brother-in-law in Chicago. As a young man he worked in family owned shingle mills with his father and brothers in the Sultan, Darrington and Deming area. After settling in the Lake Stevens area in 1951 he did radio and television repair work, owning his own business and later retired from Pringle Electronics. He was a self- taught ham radio operator and after retirement took an interest in genealogy and traced family history back to 1300’s. He served during World War II in the US Army-Air Corp but most of all; Carl was proud to be a lifetime member of the Masonic Temple for the past 65 years and talked about those times with fond memories. He will be remembered for his love of vegetable gardening, hunting, fishing and camping and could still tell you where the old camp stove is buried in the mountains. He told great stories about life in the logging camps, and Dad was always ready for a visit with family and friends. The annual Ward Family Picnic was the highlight of his year. On Saturday, June 15, 2013, a visitation will be held from 11AM until Carl's Funeral Service at 1PM at Evegreen Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4504 Broadway in Everett. Carl's interment will be held at 2PM, with a reception immediately following in the hospitality room at Evergreen Funeral Home.
The family wants to acknowledge the care and comfort provided Dad by the staff at Ashley Pointe, and the nurses from Providence Hospice. Thank you, Sabrina & Christina, we could not have done this without you. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Dad’s name to be sent to the Providence Hospice & Home Care of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Ave, Ste. 500, Everett, WA 98201.
