September 3, 1942 – July 4, 2025
Dan Logan Taylor was born on September 3, 1942, at King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky, to Gertrude Cheatham and Walter Stewart “Bud” Taylor. He grew up in Ashland with his family and graduated from Ashland High School in 1961.
Shortly after graduation, Dan enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Fire Protection from September 19, 1961, to September 20, 1965. His final station was at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, where he made the decision to leave the military.
After his service, Dan was set up on a blind date by his best friend—whose girlfriend worked at “Aunt” Franny’s Beauty Shop in Bothell. That blind date would change his life forever. In June of 1965, he met the love of his life, Colleen Rose Reiner. He knew she was the one, and after proposing five times, she said yes on the sixth. They were married on October 2, 1965.
Later that year, the couple bought their first home in Edmonds, Washington. They filled it with love—and many pets—before welcoming their daughter, Nancy Kathleen (Taylor) Duell. Not long after, their son, Dan Logan Taylor II, was born. After seven meaningful years in their first home in Edmonds, the growing family outgrew the space and moved to Everett in 1972 to start a new chapter. Nancy was five, and little Dan was three when they settled into the house that has remained their family home for over 53 years.
Dan began his career as a firefighter in Everett on November 30, 1969. He served the city with pride and dedication until his retirement on December 31, 1992, primarily working out of Station 5 on Beverly and Madison. There, he became affectionately known as “the real Dan Taylor” to distinguish him from another firefighter with the same name.
After retiring, Dan found he missed working and took a part-time job as a door greeter at Costco in Everett, where he worked from November 1996 until June 2005. He truly enjoyed the role and the people he met there.
Dan passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2025. This October would have marked 60 years of marriage with his beloved Colleen. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral service. Dan asked to be cremated and remembered simply for the man he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Medic One Foundation—a cause close to Dan’s heart and one he personally supported.
