Debbie (Kyong Sik Sin) Miller, 82, passed away in Everett, Washington on March 21, 2021 shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Debbie was born in Manchuria, China on October 5, 1938 to Korean parents, Sae Ho Sin and Soo Nam Chae. At the end of WWII, her family fled China back to their homeland in Korea. A few short years later, the Korean War broke out and she was separated from her parents and two brothers, never to be reunited again.
In the early 1960’s, Debbie worked at the Yongsan U.S. Army Base in Seoul, Korea. During her employment there, she picked the name “Debbie” for herself because of her admiration for actress Debbie Reynolds. She worked as a bookkeeper and a hostess at the officers club on base which gave her the opportunity to meet many celebrities on USO tour, such as Bob Hope, Lana Turner and Danny Kaye to name a few. In 1963 she met a handsome officer, 1st Lieutenant Robert E. Miller (Bob). Little did she know, he would become her future husband. She immigrated to the U.S. and they married in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 14, 1964. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before Bob passed away in March 2015.
Debbie had many hobbies and talents during her early motherhood years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and oil painting. She also was involved in the Lincoln International Women’s Club and served one year as club president. In 1977, Bob, Debbie and their two daughters relocated to Seattle, WA. Debbie started a successful cleaning business in the Seattle area and she continued to work until she was 70 years old.
Debbie was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. She was full of life, witty, and loved to make people feel good as she showered them with compliments. Her family and the people she touched will miss her dearly.
Debbie is survived by her two daughters Betsy Miller-AhYat (husband Tim AhYat), Sandra Hanson and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Miller (2015) and son-in-law, Stan Hanson (2014).
She will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery on April 7, 2021 in a private family ceremony.
