The world lost a precious daughter, sister and friend when Debbie Nicks of Everett, Washington peacefully passed away at 2:30pm on June 21st 2020, after a long battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
Debbie was born on May 24th 1954 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Since her father was in the Air Force, the family made several moves – from Biloxi to Wenatchee, Washington and then Seattle. Here, Debbie graduated from Ingraham high school, Class of ’72.
Although she had many challenges from a mobility standpoint, Debbie was extremely strong-minded, determined and didn’t let her handicaps take away from doing what she wanted to do. Instead, she enjoyed life and she was very independent. She lived on her own and had no problem “driving” her wheelchair to the Northgate movie theater or taking a train or bus to a concert at the Tacoma dome.
Debbie had a special bond with her father, Walter who was her caregiver until 2009. Debbie was always thankful for any assistance she received from her father and her sisters, Kerrie and Diane.
As an animal-lover, Debbie was absolutely passionate about helping animals. For a few years, she volunteered at a PAWS thrift store where the money collected went to the PAWS Animal shelter. She also participated in fund-raising activities to raise money for animals. She supported causes, such as “Save the Whales” and was also an environmental enthusiast.
Debbie was very intelligent with vast music and movie knowledge, making trivia battles against her nearly impossible. A few of Debbie’s “favorites” included the color blue, 70’s music and the TV show Pitbulls & Parolees. She enjoyed reading and watching movies – especially the Twilight series. Debbie was one of their biggest fans.
She will always be remembered for her love of family, her orneriness and by her ability to make you laugh.
Debbie is now with the Lord in Heaven and reunited with those who left this earthly world before, including her grandparents, Gordon and Thelma Nicks and her beloved cats, Val-Bat and Summer.
Those who remain to cherish Debbie’s memory include her father Walter Nicks (Celia), sisters Kerrie (Norman) Gosslee and Diane (Brett) Nicks and her nephew, Jeffrey Gosslee.
Debbie always wanted to visit Forks, Washington, where the Twilight series was based. So, to fulfill her wishes, her family will take her (in her urn) on one last “road trip” to honor Debbie’s Twilight passion, prior to laying her to rest at Evergreen Washelli, where a private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a one-time donation to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) – a charity that Debbie was very passionate about.
We will miss Debbie and we will treasure her deeply in our hearts, forever.
