Jann was born in Long Island, New York, to Charles and Dolores Duncan on November 22, 1950.
Jann met Thomas Ibsen at the University of Washington, and they were married on March 7, 1976. Jann and Tom loved to travel and instilled that love in their three children, Stuart, Jennifer, and Steven.
Jann was a world traveler and visited many countries and far-reaching locations, including: Canada, Japan, Okinawa, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Taiwan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Wake Island, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Vatican, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Iceland, Yugoslavia, Brazil, and Dutch Guiana.
Jann loved crafts and spent countless hours on needlework art, paintings, knitting, sewing, and drawing. She played the violin, piano, and guitar. Writing was another important part of her life, and in addition to journals for all of her trips, she authored a children’s book, reflecting her love of family, friendship, and adventure.
She had a deep love for plants and took great pride in her garden, dahlias, orchids, and other plants she grew. It was not unusual for her to bring home wilting flowers from the store so she could nurture them back to life.
Jann loved her pets which included dogs, cats, ducks, birds, lizards, turtles, a rabbit, a sugar glider, frogs, and fish. She had room in her heart for all of them.
Other aspects of her life included her pride in her Scottish ancestry, she collected dolls, stuffed animals, and had many souvenirs from her travels.
For Jann, family and friends were everything. She was happiest when the people she loved were close.
She is survived by her husband Thomas; their son Stuart and his wife Carolyn; daughter Jennifer and her husband Mike Stout; son Steven and his wife Megan Easley; her grandchildren Stella, Walter, Rocco, and Milo; and her sister Patricia and her husband James Hollywood. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Dolores Duncan.
It’s impossible to fully represent her life in such few words. She was deeply loved, will be dearly missed, and will be remembered forever.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Evergreen Hospital and Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland for their compassionate care and support, and to the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Redmond for the therapy, comfort and joy they provided Jann through horse therapy.
