Lillian L. Hanson passed away on May 20th, 2015 in Shoreline, following a brief illness. She was born on August 4th, 1925, to Axel Hawkinson and Hulda Ostlund, in McGregor, North Dakota. The family moved to a farm near New Effington, South Dakota in the early 1930s, and Lillian was the salutatorian of her graduating class there in 1943. The family moved to Seattle soon after her graduation to seek employment during WWII. She worked for the Boeing Co. for a period of time and while there she met Ralph M. Hanson, Jr., whom she married in 1946. After the war they spent a couple of years in the Tri-Cities area before they moved back to the Puget Sound area, living in the Everett, Lynnwood, and Edmonds areas for the rest of her life. Lillian’s passions were her family, friends, and sports. They had three children, Brad, Lisa, and Lisbeth, who were her pride and joy. She had numerous dear friends whom she treasured greatly. Her friends were from all aspects of her life: work related (18 years with Seattle First National Bank), social organizations (Beta Sigma Phi sorority), and over 50 years with Trinity Lutheran Church. She had a lifelong love of sports, beginning with watching her oldest brother playing baseball. She was a Mariners fan, and before them a Pilots fan, and before them a Rainiers fan. In particular, she was a football fan - a season ticket holder for many years to both Husky football and the Seahawks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and daughter Lisa, and her sister and both her brothers. She is survived by her son Brad, daughter Lisbeth, 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her never-questioning support and unwavering love – she enriched our lives beyond adequate description. Special thanks to the staff at Merrill Gardens Mountlake Terrace for making her 3 year stay there enjoyable and especially to the St. Joseph Adult Family Home in Shoreline for caring for her during the past year.
Please join us for a memorial service on Monday, June 22nd at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood.
