

Marilyn Joyce Wegley devoted: mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, just days shy of her 95th birthday.
Born on May 31, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Washington, she was the beloved daughter of Gordon and Ruth ( Ottem ) Reese. She grew up on the family homestead in Silvana, Washington with her brothers Clyde and Dennis. They were surrounded by a large extended family on nearby farms. The families were the pioneer descendants of immigrants from Oppdal, Norway. The rhythms of life on the dairy farm taught her the importance of: hard work, resilience, the value of family and the simple joys of life.
Upon graduation from Arlington High School, she embarked on a career in nursing at Western Washington College and Saint Luke’s General Hospital in Bellingham. The friendships she forged in nurses training became bonds she cherished all of her life. While studying in Bellingham, she met Jack Albert Wegley and they were married on September 20, 1952. After a short career as an operating room nurse, Jack and Marilyn started a family of their own. They had one daughter - Jill ( Mullins ), and three sons - Steven, Roger and Reese. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she found her truest fulfillment nurturing and guiding her children. She gave generously of her time and affection, creating a home that was a welcome sanctuary for all who entered.
A women of many talents, Marilyn had a special gift for baking. Her kitchen was always filled with the comforting aromas of pies, cookies and other tasty treats, made with care and love. Her baked goods were legendary among family and friends and her recipes will live on in the hands and hearts of those she taught.
Marilyn’s legacy is one of kindness, dedication and unwavering love. She is survived by: brother Dennis, son-in-law Mark Mullins, her three sons, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her wisdom, laughter and boundless affection.
A private family service will be held to honor her life and legacy.
