

Ralph was raised in Monroe, WA. Before moving with his family to Everett, where he graduated from Everett High School at 16. He attended Oberlin College on scholarship, universities of Oregon and Washington (Mush you Huskies!) and graduated from Northwestern Medical School in combination with his undergraduate studies. He was a member of the Washington National Guard and Captain in the U.S. Army as a medical officer.
Ralph married Sue Hartley of Everett and completed his residency in Chicago before returning to Everett to start his medical career at the Everett Clinic. Ralph and Sue raised his 4 children in Everett and then moved to La Jolla, CA.. There he married I. Ardelle Wilcox Meyer and practiced medicine until 1999. After retiring, he returned to Everett where he lived the last 15 years of his life.
Ralph is pre-deceased by his parents, 1st and 2nd wives, brothers Richard, Noel, Wesley and sister Dorothy. He is survived by his sister Priscilla (Wallace) Stevenson, brother Webster, children Noel (John) Downey, Dexter (Patty) Brown, Gretchen (Joseph) Hoffman, Jamie (Mark McAuliffe), step-children Beverly Willms, Barbara (Derick) Christensen, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and dear companion Mary Secoy.
Ralph, scholar, state record holder, member of the EHS “Wonder Team”, father, husband, provider, friend, hunter, fisherman, golfer, crab-lover, imbued the attributes of humility, patience, kindness, and compassion. Those of us blessed to experience and know this fine gentleman are the better for it. For his friends and family, he held you dear and wishes you peace and joy throughout your lives.
There will be a private funeral service. Friends and family are invited to a memorial reception April 5th, 2 pm, at the Everett Golf & Country Club. Those wishing to remember Ralph are encouraged to fly their U.S. flag, and in lieu of flowers, donations or volunteering in his memory may be made to Bethany of the Northwest Foundation or the Kidney Auxiliary of Puget Sound.
