Born in North Burnaby, British Columbia, he was the son of the late Alfred Scott and Beatrice (Turner) Scott. He is survived by his wife Sherleen Satushek, sister Catherine Achtemichuk, and brother Donald Scott. His brother Bruce Scott preceded him in death. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.
Randy lead a life of passions. He began ski instructing at age 16, spent many years ski racing at Whistler. He was lucky to ski all over the world. He loved scuba diving, skydiving, racing cars, riding motorcycles, water skiing, kite boarding, swimming, and golf.
He developed a deep passion for aviation early in life completing his commercial license at age 18. His road to becoming a commercial captain for Cathay Pacific involved many paths and detours. Besides being a commercial pilot he worked on trains, commercial fished, worked briefly as a longshoreman, flew in the bush and freight out of Nova Scotia. He had a seafood company and construction company that built condos at Whistler. He flew for many airlines including Harbour Air, Kelowna Flight Craft, Ward Air, Air Canada and finally Cathay Pacific.
His commitment to his work was evident not only in his flying but also in the professionalism and passion he carried throughout his career. He was proud to pass down his love of flying to his godsons, who now are also pursuing commercial airline careers.
When Randy worked for Cathay Pacific he moved to Hong Kong, which he loved. Working for Cathay Pacific gave Randy the opportunity to travel and explore the world. After he retired he would spend time in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand and the United States. Randy’s contagious energy made him friends all over the world.
In addition to his flying career, Randy had a profound love for music. In high school he played guitar in a band that performed at a local casino. But later in life he loved listening to music more than playing.
A devoted husband, he and his wife, Sherleen, had many any adventures together. They traveled to Hong Kong, took many motorhome trips, and traveled all through the United States where they settled during the COVID epidemic.
Randy always told vivid stories of his adventures. The disease that took his life also robbed him of his ability to tell those stories, but his friends and family who loved him will go on telling them. He was a remarkable man who led a remarkable life. Fly high Captain Scott.
Family and friends are invited to honor Randy’s life at April 11, 1:00 PM at Meadow Gardens Golf Club, Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Livestream available.
