Richard Eldon Palmer was born in Richmond, California, to Thomas R. Palmer and Vera M. Palmer (Wimberley). Growing up in Concord, California, he graduated from Concord High School in 1972 as an accomplished Eagle Scout. With a passion for sprint car racing, Richard was actively involved in the racing community in Calistoga, California, where he found camaraderie and joy.
In 1972, Richard answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. After his honorable service, he pursued higher education, earning an Associate's Degree in Automotive from Victor Valley College and a Bachelor’s Degree in English and History from California State University, Stanislaus.
Richard’s career began at the California State Department of Transportation in 1981, where he dedicated himself to his work until he retired early in 1992. His commitment to service continued when he joined the Air National Guard in 1984, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
In 1992, Richard relocated his beloved family to Everett, Washington, where he remained a cherished member of the community until his passing. Known for his tireless involvement in the racing world, he earned the revered title of Mr. Golden Wrench in 1998 and collaborated closely with race teams at Evergreen Speedway. Recently, he was a pivotal part of the American Sprint Boat Association and teamed up with Badhabit Racing alongside his son-in-law and granddaughter.
Richard found fulfillment at Tacoma Hydraulics, which he joined in 2015, often expressing that work felt more like being with family. His passion extended beyond work into his hobbies, where he could be found in his garage working on cars or in his reloading shed, often accompanied by his grandson. A lover of hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors, Richard took immense pride in his family, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Vera Palmer, Richard leaves behind a legacy of love and respect. He is survived by his sister, Vera "Lynn" Hansen of Utah, his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Brenda (Ecclestone) Palmer of Everett, WA, his cherished daughter Tonia Rapp (Palmer), son-in-law Scott Rapp, and his adored grandchildren, Jaelin, Kallie, and Colten Rapp of Lynnwood, WA, as well as many cherished nephews and nieces.
Richard was loved and respected by all who knew him. His funeral and burial service will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery, where he will be honored for his service and remembered for a life well-lived.

" Our lives go on without you
But nothing is the same
We have to hide our heartache
When someone speaks your name
Sad are the hearts that love you
Silent are the tears that fall
Living without you is the
Hardest part of all
You did so many things for us
Your heart was so kind and true
And when we needed someone
We could always count on you
The special years will not return
When we are all together
But with the love in our hearts
You will walk with us forever "
