Born in 1944 at Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington, to Mary Lou and Wayne Looysen, Sharon grew up exploring the neighborhoods of Everett with her older sister, Bonnie, and many childhood friends.
Sharon had a passion for dance, which she carried through high school at Everett High. She was physically active and partnered with her lifelong friend, Don Corliss, with American Bandstand Nights, and winning a jitterbug contest.
While in high school, Sharon met and later married Ken Gleave, a handsome sailor who had just returned from service. Together, they raised their three children, Jim, Laurie, and Curtis, in Snohomish County. She loved her family well and doted on her grandchildren. They loved to come to Grandma’s house and look for their treasure boxes always filled with love and lots of candy! Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Sharon was a tender and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who uplifted her family and others with her humor, love, and unwavering faith.
During her many years of marriage to Ken, she found joy in fishing, camping and most of all dancing! Anyone who watched them dance, especially the jitterbug, were in for a treat! They weathered the storms and rejoiced in the love and happiness they shared together. She treasured those memories and photos of all of their adventures and family time.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, providing strength during the loss of her husband, Ken, her sister Bonnie, and her granddaughter Anna. Sharon faced cancer in her 50s with the same courage, and her faith continued to guide her.
Sharon went on to meet and date Gayle Kindred, who brought life and joy back into her heart after losing Ken. In 2001, Sharon and Gayle were married, and their adventures together began with going on a honeymoon to Alaska. They embraced their silver years with joy, traveling in their motorhome, enjoying sand dunes, whitewater rafting, trips on their Harley Trike, and of course, dancing. Sharon’s love for dancing never waned, especially during formal nights on cruises where she dazzled in her favorite dresses and high heels. They enjoyed life and their adventures to the fullest.
A couple of Sharon’s treasured memories were going with her niece Michele to China to adopt Michele’s beautiful daughter Vivienne. She loved the trips she took afterwards to England to visit Michele and little Viv, where Sharon was affectionately call Nana Popo. Sharon also loved the times when she was able to travel and see her brother Robert, his wife Desiree and her niece and nephews.
Sharon’s legacy of love, faith, and joy will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Sharon is predeceased by her husband Ken, sister Bonnie and her granddaughter Anna. Sharon is survived by her husband Gayle, brother Robert (Desiree), her children Jim (Anjanette), Laurie (Tom), Curtis, Gayle’s children, Terry (Michelle) and Tracy, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
A special thank you to Luisa, Bhing and the staff at Anngelou Adult Family Home for the love and tender care they showed Sharon and her family through the difficult end stages of Sharon’s life, along with Eden Hospice team for their loving care during the final stage before Sharon said goodbye. We are forever grateful.
