She was born on February 16th, 1928 to Alma (Johansen) and Burton J. Crosby in McCloud, California. When she was 2 years old, they returned to her mother's home on Decatur Island in San Juan County, Washington. There they lived through the Depression and there she was joined by 3 younger brothers, Burton, Robert, and Ivan. They moved back to McCloud for her father's job during most of the war years, but returned to Anacortes, Washington in 1945.
Shirley married Delbert Holloway Worline on April 29, 1946 in Anacortes and honeymooned in Wenatchee. She had a fondness for cherry blossoms ever after. In an unusual twist, the bride was not pregnant at the wedding but her mother was! Her sister, Sarah "Salley" was born shortly after the wedding, to be followed 2 years later by yet another sister: Sandra. Her father joked with Shirley it took two to replace her. Shirley was the eldest of 6 children; surviving all by Sarah.
Shirley and Del began their married life in Anacortes, and later moved to Boonville, Eureka, and Crescent City, California. They retired in 1983 to Decatur Island the San Juans, built a home and tended a garden next door to her parents to help them in their old age. Their last move was to Everett in 1998 to be closer to their own children and grandchildren.
Shirley loved camping, fishing trips, and picnics with Del, her family, and friends. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting projects. Shirley will be fondly remembered for her cheerful kind, friendly disposition, and her generosity. She loved time spent with her family above all else.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Del, beloved son William "Bill", and great grandson Jeffrey Davis.
Those who mourn her passing are her daughter Cathi Owens, Ellen Worline, widow of son Bill, five grandchildren: Garrett Mercadante, Brad Moore (Angela), Melissa Cunningham (Casey), Stephanie Vore, and Erica Ballard, her sister Sarah Taylor (Chuch), ten great grand children, three great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Be at peace, dear one.
