Bryan Barnes, husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 15, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on June 6, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Virginia Barnes (Hunt) and Lloyd Barnes. Bryan is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia, whom he spent the last 13 years of his life with as well as his 4 beloved children, Joe, John, Justin, and Kristin.
Bryan graduated from Southwest High School In Kansas City, Missouri, in 1968 and was soon after called upon to serve his country much like his father and grandfather before him. At the age of 18 Bryan was drafted by the army and deployed to Vietnam between 1968-69 serving as a radioman.
After completing his service, he pursued his passion for hairstyling earning his cosmetology license at the age of 20. He later moved to Orange County, California, where he proudly opened the Bryan Barnes Salon. He continued honing his craft where his talent and artistry earned him multiple #1 Best Hair Stylist awards in Style Magazine after moving to the greater Sacramento area. Bryan always saw his work as an extension of himself, he took great pride in his career and cherished those he worked with earning over 50 years in his field upon his passing.
Bryan’s passions extended beyond hairstyling. He was an avid car enthusiast, with his treasured yellow 1965 Chevy Chevelle bearing the license plate frame “praise the lowered” being featured on the cover of the April 2010 issue of Rod and Custom.
A man with a natural eye for beauty and design, Bryan extended his creativity beyond the salon and into his home. He took great pride in shaping his yard and landscape, carefully selecting plants, arranging flowers, and designing spaces that reflected both his artistry and his love for nature. Every detail was intentional. His yard wasn’t just a garden, it was a place to gather, relax, and enjoy.
Bryan cherished spending time with friends and family. He loved to entertain and celebrate every occasion. Recognizing the importance of the holidays as a time to come together. Christmas was particularly special to him. Bryan threw himself wholeheartedly into the season decorating every corner of his home, inside and out, often spending months excitedly planning every little detail. Bryan embodied the spirit of Christmas through his generosity and welcomeness.
Those who knew Bryan will remember him for his artistry, humor, warmth, and thoughtfulness. A service will be held for Bryan September 29th, 2025 at Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. where we welcome you in joining us in remembering him.
