April 30, 1930 – April 16, 2012
Catalina Duarte Torres is resting in God’s loving grace. She was the only daughter born to Rita Peñúñuri de Duarte and Enrique Duarte Yanes. Her parents and her brothers, Ismael Alberto, Alfonso and Lauro, preceded her in death. Catalina was the last surviving member of her Duarte Peñúñuri generation.
She will be forever honored for her infinite love, strength, kindness and generosity, her love for her birthplace, San Pedro de la Cueva, Sonora, México, and her amazing nurturing, cooking and sewing. She will be remembered as a woman who protected, guided and served her loved ones in spite of any hardship. She will be remembered, not only for what she did, but also for who she was, a beautifully elegant human being with a heart of gold.
She was the devoted wife of Juan Hernández Torres since 1954. Catalina will be forever missed by her beloved husband and her 9 children, 34 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Her children, Guadalupe De Herrera (& James), Artemio Juan (& Leticia), Enrique, Catalina Olvera (& Ramón), Richard (& Lisa), Maria Estella Rubaszewski (& Bob), Herlinda Torres Benuto (& Luis), Alejandro Rey, and Rita Luz are forever grateful. She was a beloved “second mother” to Rita, Albert, Mark and Jesusita. Her many friends, nieces, nephews, and extended family members in the USA and in México also grieve for her.
Catalina made her home the preferred gathering place for family and friends. She and her husband, Juan, created an atmosphere, which drew people into their home by their acceptance, caring smiles and unconditionally loving ways. Catalina had a natural, easy way of creating the most inclusive, and comfortable atmosphere. Her willingness to help anyone, in any way possible, gave new meaning to taking care of the family. Catalina was always available to support and assist others who were in need. All who know her dearly loved her.
We miss you to no end. We love you. Thank you for countless blessings. Thank you for wisdom, for strength, for life! “Mami, I’ll hold your hand forever!”
Catalina, may you rest in peace. Descanse en paz.
Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial and funeral services on Saturday, April 21 with at visitation from 8:30-10am at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, CA and the funeral Mass at Holy Trinity in El Dorado Hills, CA at 12pm.
